How to Be Kinder to Yourself

It’s a New Year, and while most of us are busy cleaning up from the holidays and making goals for 2024, there’s one resolution I hope everyone makes: one to be kinder to yourself. You might wonder if self-kindness can actually make a difference beyond just your feelings - but truthfully, it can be life-changing!

Most of us can are often extremely critical - both of ourselves and others - and tend to assume the worst in people. We often “react from a place of defensiveness, fear, or self-protection” rather than a place of love, grace, and healing. A mindful practice to reverse this trend in new year can transform how we think and, accordingly, how we live our lives.

Our internal thoughts govern our actions, which determine so much about our relationships with those around us. By interrupting our negative thought patterns and choosing kindness instead, we can begin to act towards ourselves and others in a manner consistent with loving kindness.

A few tools to help change your automatic reactions for the better are mindfulness, meditation, and a little patience, as the ingrained patterns we have carried take some time to change. The result, however, will carry far-reaching positive impacts in 2024 and beyond.

Make it your goal to treat yourself and others with love, kindness, and grace. As always, reach out if you need help on your journey towards mindfulness.

Mindfully Yours,
Dr. Pamm
