This workshop will introduce you to mindfulness and will provide you with an opportunity to put into practice the basics of “paying attention on purpose in the present moment and non-judgmentally.”Mindfulness will be explored through both practice and lecture. You will learn the tools of mindfulness meditation to create both a formal and informal practice for yourself. These skills can become transferable to your clients as well. Developing your own meditation practice before teaching others is recommended. You will become more skilled in responding vs. reacting to stressors and commit to setting new intentions for your own wellness.Current research on mindfulness suggests that new pathways in the brain can be created through regular practice. Mindfulness tools can be used in relapse prevention with addictive disorders through teaching an increased awareness of triggers and personal accountability for responses.Come join us in this venture to truly commit to your own wellness and invite this practice of mindfulness into your self-care and clinical strategies. GoalsAt the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Increase recognition of automatic thoughts and reactions and to learn “pause”
  • Increase responding vs. reacting to old patterns of thinking and behaviors asit pertains to addiction recovery
  • Use curiosity and non-judging awareness as a lens for viewing life in promoting recovery
  • Integrate mindfulness into routine activities and decrease mindlessness
  • Set daily goals for setting intentions, attention and attitude for promotingskillful interactions

  ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Learn formal and informal mindfulness processes
  • Commit to developing a personal mindfulness practice during the training
  • Integrate mindfulness into self-care strategy
  • Integrate mindfulness into your life as a tool for decreasing stress reactions
  • Increase curiosity rather than judgment into daily life events
  • Recognize old patterns of thinking and reacting and to build new patternsusing the mindfulness tools of “naming and noting”
