Blocks to Healthy Communication

If you’ve followed the communication tips for healthier relationships from last week’s post, but think you might need more help, here’s a list of questions to ask yourself:

  1. Do you tend to hold back in conversations, or take a passive role because you lack confidence or don’t know how to fully participate?
  2. Do you pile your feelings, opinions and hurts on your spouse, family, friends, co-workers, or even your boss?
  3. Do you withhold your feelings from your spouse, family, friends, co-workers, or boss?
  4. Do you hide your feelings in front of others by being withdrawn or shut down?
  5. Do your conversation with others feels authentic? How often do you share your truth, and feel open to others’ truths?
  6. Do memories of past conflicts bother you? Do you write scripts in your mind for how you “should” have handled those conflicts?

If you answered “yes” to two or more of these questions, you might benefit from the help of a counselor or/and could learn more about developing a mindfulness practice. This is what I love to teach and would be most interested in helping.- Dr. Pamm
